We’re Here to Help

At Cherished Pets by Watts, we understand that navigating end-of-life care for your beloved pet can raise many questions. To assist you during this difficult time, we’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions we receive. Our goal is to provide clarity and comfort, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

1. What makes Cherished Pets by Watts different from other pet cremation services?
At Cherished Pets by Watts, we handle every aspect of your pet’s cremation with care and dignity at our facility located at 720 S. US Hwy. 17, San Mateo, FL 32187. Unlike some providers, we never outsource our cremation services. This means you can trust that the cremated remains you receive are 100% your pet’s. Cherished Pets by Watts is operated by Margaret and Jamie Watts, a mother-and-son team who have been in funeral care for over 40 years. Our commitment to transparency includes making our facility available for your inspection, ensuring you feel confident in the services we provide.

2. What are the risks of choosing pet cremation through my veterinarian?
While veterinarians mean well and aim to make the process easier for their clients, they may sometimes choose a pet cremation provider based on cost rather than quality and care. Unfortunately, this can result in uncertainty about where your pet is taken and whether you truly receive your pet’s ashes. At Cherished Pets by Watts, we oversee the entire cremation process from start to finish, ensuring that your pet is treated with the utmost respect and that you have peace of mind.

3. Can I visit your facility?
Absolutely! We believe in complete transparency. Our pet cremation facility is open for inspection, and we welcome you to visit us at 720 S. US Hwy. 17, San Mateo, FL 32187. We want you to feel confident that your pet will be treated with the care and dignity they deserve.

4. What types of pet cremation services do you offer?
We offer private cremation services, where your pet is cremated individually. This ensures that the ashes you receive are solely those of your pet. For families who want their pet to be cared for with dignity but do not wish to receive the cremated remains back, we also offer communal cremations. Additionally, we provide at-home or veterinarian pick-up services to make the process as seamless as possible during this difficult time.

5. How do I know that I will receive my pet’s ashes?
Because we oversee the entire cremation process and never outsource our services, we can say with 100% certainty that the ashes you receive are your pet’s. Our hands-on approach and dedication to quality mean that your pet is in safe, caring hands throughout the entire process.

6. What happens if my pet passes in the middle of the night?
We know that losing a pet is an incredibly difficult experience, and in those tender moments, you may want to spend some final time with your beloved companion. It’s perfectly okay to take that time—there’s no need to rush. We encourage you to do what feels right for you.

Our in-home pet pickup services are available from 8:00 AM to Midnight, 7 days a week. If your pet passes after midnight, we recommend placing them in a cool, dry location indoors. When you’re ready, please give us a call, and we will ensure one of our caring staff members arrives first thing in the morning to take them into our care.

7. Can I bring my pet to you?
Absolutely! We’re here for you 7 days a week from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, ready to assist you and your beloved pet. To ensure we’re prepared to welcome you with the care and attention you deserve, please give us a call at (386) 328-1414 at least one hour before your arrival. Our address is 720 S. US Hwy. 17, San Mateo, FL 32187. We’re here to help during this difficult time.

8. What areas do you serve?
We proudly serve families in Putnam, Flagler, St. Johns,
Clay, Duval, Marion, Alachua and  Volusia counties. Our goal is to provide compassionate, affordable service to all pet parents in these communities.

9. How do I arrange a pet cremation?

You can arrange a pet cremation by contacting us directly at (386) 328-1414. We will guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

10. What Do My Pet’s “Ashes” Consist Of? The term “ashes” is often used to describe the remains of a cremated pet, but this can be a bit misleading. What is returned to you after the cremation process are technically known as cremated remains. These remains are primarily composed of bone fragments that have been carefully processed into a uniform consistency. While people commonly refer to them as "ashes," this terminology is not entirely accurate. We understand how important it is to care for these remains with the utmost respect, as they represent a cherished part of your pet's memory and legacy.
